Amanda Good
–
Originally from Lancaster, PA, she has called Pittsburgh her home for nearly 5
years. She attended the University of
Pittsburgh where she studied depression in older adults as part of her honors research
thesis. She will be working at CONTACT
Pittsburgh which operates mental health crisis hotlines in the area.
Anita Hooley –
Growing up as the daughter of a Mennonite preacher in Canton, OH, Anita
followed her Mennonite roots to Goshen College. While at Goshen, she was active on campus in athletics and
literary pursuits, culminating in a summer research position studying Mennonite
poetry. She graduated with her
secondary education certificate and will be using those education skills during
her PULSE experience working at Wireless Neighborhoods and serving as the
Pastoral Intern at Pittsburgh Mennonite Church.
Karen Johnson –
Another Ohio resident coming to PULSE, Karen graduated with a degree in
anthropology from Ohio Wesleyan University.
She has an interest in outdoor education and has spent this past summer
working with a youth service program in Green Bay, WI. She will be working for the Storehouse for
Teachers, a new program emerging from the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation. She is also the board representative for the community.
Micah Jost – Micah is another participant
with deep Mennonite roots. Growing up
in Harrisonburg, VA, he felt the Mennonite influence from Eastern Mennonite
University from an early age and recently graduated from Goshen College where
he majored in Spanish and minored in History.
His primary interest is in pursuing a legal education that will engage
his interest in human rights and labor law.
He will learning about labor law while working with the United
Steelworkers.
Nick Loewen –
Nick is another Goshen graduate who is joining PULSE this year. He grew up in the Goshen area and then
decided to attend his hometown college to major in English and Art. An avid cyclist, he has just returned from a
bike tour through Asia, including stops in Cambodia, Laos and China. He has been splitting his time between scenic design at The City Theatre and Glass Action at the Union Project. He also serves as the House Accountant.
Stefanie Moser –
Hailing from nearby Latrobe, PA, Stefanie recently graduated from Messiah
College where she was an Art Major. She
has vast experience in the visual arts and has put her skills into public art
displays in Harrisburg and Bosnia. She
has been expanding her experience through arts education at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
Cara Rufenacht – Cara is a talented graphic
artist who advanced her skill as an Art major at Bluffton University in
Ohio. While at Bluffton, she worked on
several marketing designs for the University’s Admissions department and is
looking forward to honing her design and marketing skills at Venture Outdoors during her PULSE
experience .
Layne Wyse – Layne
is a gifted clay artist who attended Goshen College after growing up in
Michigan. Over the past year, he has
been working with students in the Goshen
Public Schools and the Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp. He has been working with the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild as they prepared for an
international conference for ceramics artists (NCECA) that came to Pittsburgh in
March, 2008.
